Amazing

Christopher and I are amazed each and every day by this little child growing inside of me.  We just can’t believe how God has blessed us with this special gift.  We marvel at how my belly is growing and we look forward to the day when we’ll get to feel the baby moving around.  I thought I felt a movement this morning, but then I realized it was just the water hitting my belly in an odd way.  Besides, at 14 weeks, it’s way too early for me to be feeling the baby move.  Even so, every day I try to really concentrate to see if I can feel anything.

I am so excited to finally be in the second trimester.  It hasn’t seemed to do anything for the morning sickness thus far, but my appetite is improving a bit.  I need get an exercise routine together now and move move move so I can stay healthy and not gain too much weight.  I would love to go for a walk every day but I don’t feel safe doing that by myself in downtown Jackson, even in the middle of the day.

Christopher took a picture of my 14 week belly yesterday, and hopefully we’ll get that posted in my album soon.  You can see a slight progression from 8 weeks to now.  I’m loving it.

Friday’s Appointment

Posted by Rashell on 28 Apr 2008 at 08:53 am | Tagged as: baby

I had another OB appointment on Friday.  We didn’t get to see the baby :( but we did hear the heartbeat, which is always very cool.  I remembered to ask about the heart rate this time and the doctor said the baby’s heart rate is 155bpm.  According to a certain old wives tale, it sounds like we have a little boy!  (I’m still hoping for a girl, but I’m glad to have a baby.)  I left the appointment with the surreal feeling again of being pregnant.  It’s just so great knowing there’s this little person growing inside of me.  Kind of freaky, too.  And uncomfortable.  Pregnancy has not been very fun so far.  But I’m 13 weeks and 2 days and very much looking forward to seeing what the second trimester brings along.

Update

My body is changing and growing, and it’s time to buy new shirts!  Yes, already.  Good thing I have all that birthday money to blow.  The morning sickness finally seems to be easing up on me, but the bone weary exhaustion is still clinging.  I haven’t hit the second trimester yet so that’s to be expected, but it can still be frustrating.  Last night, I came home from work, took a walk with Christopher, helped him with the dishes, cooked and ate dinner and fell asleep on the couch between 7 and 7:30.  Got up at 9:30 and went straight to bed.  I didn’t get up (except for a bathroom break, of course) until nearly 7 this morning, and I still felt like I could sleep another hour or two.  I guess this is how I’m going to feel for the next several years, so I’d best get used to it.  :)

Happy Easter!

Posted by Rashell on 20 Mar 2008 at 08:05 am | Tagged as: Uncategorized

My dad and sister and possibly a friend of dad’s will be joining Christopher and I for Easter this Sunday.  I am looking forward to it.  It’s always great to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and the basis of our faith and who better to do this with than family?  The only thing is that I still have to clean the entire apartment and go grocery shopping and figure out how to cook a ham in just three days!  My morning sickness has been easing up this week so I’m hoping and praying that I will feel well enough this weekend to do of all those things.

In baby related news, I’m not showing yet, but my stomach is getting really hard.  A friend laughed with me about that last week and told me that I bet I didn’t know I had such great abbs.  I decided that I’ll have Christopher take weekly or biweekly pics of me beginning on Saturday which will mark the beginning of my eighth week.

I had a good birthday Tuesday.  I was really missing my mom, though.  I always received a card from her a few days early and then a phone call on my birthday and I really missed that this year.  But Dad did call twice and he sang Happy Birthday to me and we got to talk for a few minutes.  I’m so grateful to have Dad around, although of course no one could ever replace Mom.  Since Dad has had to kind of fill her shoes for the past seven months I think we’ve all grown closer to him.

So there’s my update this week.  Happy Easter to everyone.

We had our first ultrasound this morning and we got to see the baby and hear his/her tiny heart beating. It was absolutely amazing. Here is Baby’s first picture:

Super Paranoia

I am five weeks and three days pregnant today.  According to babycenter.com, the baby’s brain is developing this week.  How amazing is that?

I am still in complete shock that I’m pregnant that sometimes I am convinced that it just isn’t true.  Today was one of those days, so I actually took another pregnancy test.  Yep, it’s still positive!  I don’t think it will really sink in until I go to the doctor and see the little one on the screen.  I can’t wait.

We did it!

Yay! We are finally pregnant! March would have been two full years since we started this long process of trying to conceive, and God has finally blessed us! Christopher and I are both ecstatic about this as well as nervous. We are aware that our lives are changing forever, but we also know that it will be great!

We found out Sunday night. I decided to test so that I could see the negative result and stop thinking that I could be pregnant, but instead of seeing a negative, a second line immediately started to show up. I started shaking and laughing and I got Christopher to come take a look at it. He saw the line, too, and it was pretty dark, but we still weren’t sure. So we bought some digital tests that night and tested again. Less than a minute went by before the test read “Pregnant.”

I believe that the baby will be due on November 1, give or take a week. My first appointment will be in about two and a half weeks, and I will update everyone then. I will be giving regular updates (I hope) on the pregnancy as well as progression pictures because, well, it’s just fun!

We covet the prayers of everyone right now that this will be a good pregnancy and that our baby will grow and develop properly and not come before the proper time.

Today’s Monopoly

Posted by Rashell on 22 Feb 2008 at 06:57 pm | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Christopher and I ran across a new Monopoly a few days ago. It uses credit/debit cards instead of paper money and all the properties are updated by name and price. It looks really cool, and I’d like to play it just to see how well the card system works. But I do not believe it will actually help me enjoy Monopoly.

Recipe of the Day

Cook and shred 5 or 6 chicken breasts.
Mix 16 oz. sour cream with two cans cream of chicken soup.
Mix chicken into sour cream and soup mix and pour evenly into 9X13 pan.

Melt two sticks butter and crush 80 Ritz Crackers into butter and mix.
Sprinkle buttered crackers evenly on top of chicken mix.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

I have heard that this recipe is also very tasty when you add broccoli to it although I have yet to try that for myself. Experiment with seasonings if you’d like but it is absolutely delicious if you follow the recipe exactly! (I’m sure some minced onions, garlic, and Tony’s Seasonings would make it taste even more amazing.)

Thanksgiving is over (it was a lot of fun) and Christmas is only a week away! Reminds me of that song:

Wishing, hoping, boxes to open,
but we agreed it’s right to wait.
Turkey and dressing after the blessing
and there’s just a night to wait!
Round and round the Christmas tree,
opening presents with the family!
One for you and two for me!
Oh, what a Christmas Day!

Well, I thought of that song because somewhere in there, the guy sings, “Christmas a week away!”

Christopher and I will be spending his birthday and Christmas with my family and then we will leave for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York on the 26th. I’m sorry I don’t get to spend more time with my family but we are both soooooo excited to be going up north to see Christopher’s family. It’s been two years since we’ve seen some of them.

I’m a little nervous about Christmas with my family because, since we will all be together, it will be blantantly obvious that Mom is missing. I’m trying hard to remember why we celebrate Christmas instead of allowing myself to dwell on how different and difficult the celebration will be without Mom.

I hope everyone has a very happy Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Lord.
